Starlet in “Sea Hunt,” one of the first female dive instructors, author, member of the Women Diver’s Hall of Fame, and many other component parts, today Zale is the beautiful, smiling face of today’s dive industry. PUBLIC SAFETY DIVERS SEMINAR
Friday, March 27th All Day
Learn about the latest technology tools for the public safety diver. Includes entry to Friday Exhibits and to the Tech/Wreck Party. If you are a Dive Leader, dive boat Captain, Instructor, or a dedicated Professional Technical Diver you will want to be a part of the Beneath the Sea Public Safety seminars beginning at 9 A.M. Friday, March 27th. In the morning DUI’s Faith Ortins explores how you can protect your team in contaminated water … DAN’s Eric Douglas looks at “Trends in Diving Accidents” … Sea Vision projects the increased use of ROV’s in PSD applications. After Lunch, Captain Dan Crowell speaks to surface supplied Air for PSD, law enforcement, and non-commercial ops … Blades Robinson of IDR explores lessons learned from PSD fatalities … John Hott addresses the value of full face masks in PSD … SubSalve closes the afternoon with unique lifting solutions. If you are a part of the Public Safety Diving community, or a leader in that community, you will want to join others of your profession this day looking at the business side of PSD. You should also be pleased to know that your price of admission includes both entrance to the Beneath the Sea show floor when it opens at 6P.M. that evening, and invites you to the Tech/Wreck party starting at 9 P.M.
DIVERS ALERT NETWORK (DAN) TECHNICAL DIVING CONFERENCE
Friday, March 27th, Noon – 4:00 p.m.
Friday, March 27th a special team from the Divers Alert Network headed by one of Beneath the Sea’s Divers of the Year, Dr. Richard Vann takes on Technical Diving accidents and incidents relating their examples to specific expeditions in these difficult, demanding, and demonstrative environments. Dr. Vann demonstrates the nature of diving physiology as it applies to these diving accidents and incidents … then Dr. Gozum applies the response of diving medicine. That done, these the issues are then focused tightly on the two aspects of technical diving demonstrating these problems: Bernie Chowdhury applies the concepts to wreck diving; while Gene Melton takes on cave diving and cave divers talking on equipment, procedures, and organization – or lack thereof. If you are a Tech Diver, and if you listen carefully, you will hear the rumble beneath these presentations that rebreathers are replacing Open-Circuit scuba – and that opens another can-of –worms. If you’re a Tech Diver, Tech Expedition Leader, Safety Diver or anything like that you know this afternoon is a MUST for you. That evening, at 6:00 P.M. your are welcome to come visit the exhibit floor when beneath the Sea opens for it’s 33rd annual exposition year. Them at 9:00Pm, you are invited to the Tech/Wreck Party.

Join in the annual awards evening as we present awards, recognition and gratitude to those who have contributed to diving in the world beneath the sea. At the Saturday night Award’s Banquet, Beneath the Sea will introduce their Diver’s of the Year, class of 2009. Honoring those who have served the diving industry and the local dive community throughout their diving careers, this night they shall stand and be honored by their peers. The Diver’s of the Year Class of 2009: Lee Selinsky, Dr. Jose Jones, Dr.Glen Egstrom, Stewart Snyder III, Ed Betts. The Marine Careers Program, for high school juniors/seniors and college students, focuses on career opportunities in marine arts, sciences and exploration. Students also receive free passes to the Friday night exposition at 6:00 p.m. and can experience “Discover Scuba” in the “Be a Diver Pool”. There is no fee for students BUT reservations are required by March 1 at

DISCOVER SCUBA IN THE “BE A DIVER POOL”

Don’t you know some one who would love to try scuba diving? Adults and children ten years or older can discover scuba in the “Be a Diver Pool”. Bring your bathing suit and towel and experience the thrill of breathing underwater. If you are not a diver, but are reading this because you are called by the oceans and the creatures in them, you should BE A DIVER! Beneath the Sea can start you on your journey. If your are ten years of age or older, you may come to the show for FREE, but you MUST put on your bathing suit and get into our BE A DIVER pool and Discover Diving with one of our certified dive instructors. Now that’s pretty easy … and a bargain … and an opportunity to Discover Diving you should take advantage of now. Oh, one thing, if YOU are ten or eleven years old you must bring a parent or guardian to be in the water with you … if YOU are twelve to eighteen years old, you only need to have a release signed by your parent or guardian, you may find that release here (insert release HTML). C’mon … is it time for you to BE A DIVER. If you are already a diver, this is a wonderful opportunity for you to bring some one to the show you know … someone you know would love being a diver, if only they could just try it once.

Beneath the Sea is very pleased to announce that again in 2009 Dan and Rolex have selected Beneath the Sea and our Awards Banquet as their venue for awarding their coveted DAN/ROLEX Award.
Have you ever asked yourself, “What would Mike Nelson do at a time like this?” This year Beneath the Sea will present a larger-than-life granite sculpture of Lloyd Bridges and the Mike Nelson he brought so vividly to life in the “Sea Hunt” TV series. The sculpture, created by the artist Viktor, will join the Historical Diving Society, curator of “Sea Hunt” history and memorabilia.
