Hi,

I'm newly certified and am looking to buy my own gear. I'm based out of NJ but won't be doing too much diving locally. I was thinking of getting the ScubaPro KnightHawk or Classic Plus BC with an Air 2 and a MK25/S600 regulator setup. With the deal that ScubaPro currently has, I would get an Aladin Prime dive computer for free.

What is the best time to buy this kind of gear. Do retailers have holiday discounts or package deals when you are buying so many products? I know ScubaPro regulates the pricing of their products but they've got to allow for at least one sale day in a year for the retailers.

Any advice would be helpful.

Thanks,

Dan

Don't count on the SALE.. I've never seen one.. best you could hope for is perhaps a token discount from the retailer for an initial purchase.

JUMP ON THE CURRENT COMPUTER DEAL !!! Its a winner. You won't be able to beat it.

Good Luck !

Yes Scubapro limits any discount given i know because the dive shop I work at carries Scubapro. There is no one day were you can get a better deal on their gear. Also if that is your brand of choice you can not buy off the internet as you will not get the warantee.

I agree. The most you can expect from a local dive shop is when they have a clearance sale for older models, or when they offer a percentage off of your entire purchase around the holidays if you spend a certain dollar amount (I've only seen it up to 10%). If you are ok with "older" models, take the clearance buys. As for the internet, we all know you can find it cheaper (usually), but you risk not having any support for the product. If a store will give you a package deal, you may be better off taking it.

not to promote a shop but i know many shops like my lds northeast scuba will buy screw up or blemished products that are only cosmeticly damaged. you then can get these at a much cheaper price. right now for example northeast has a batch of diverite rec wings that had the name printed in the wrong location the result Dive
Rite Rec Wings
Normally $360.00
Crazy John $169.99
You Save Over 50%

Wow! That is good. Its like the refrigerator I got at a discount place that sells "damaged goods". The SIDE was damaged. The way I have it in my kitchen, nobody sees it since that side is covered by cabinets. I saved a bundle.

Like stated before year t year changes are made or upgrades cause the manufaturer to heavily discount gear to get it out of the warehouse to make room for the new. This year we had 3mm suits and a mask that were selling at more than half their orig retail. We also had tanks that only had 3 years left on hydro that we were selling for over %30 off. So if you are patient you can get deals. HTH

exactly, it is such a great idea. a week or two ago diverite was selling there 905 backzip and frontzips for only like $990 because they are going to be making a few very small cosmetic changes. at that price you could afford to buy two of these regularly $1500 drysuits. also i bought myself 2 diverite primary reels with heavy wreck line on them for only $99 cause the metal was scratched!!!! well your gonna scratch the damn thing on your first few dives anyway. i dont know if he has any left but for an idea of some of the discounts out there look at this page and begin to feel horrible about that nice new expensive purchase  http://northeastscubasupply.com/specials.php
