Well I've been a member for a while but never wrote an intro, here goes.
So at 43, I started diving by taking a class onboard a cruiseship. My son(12) and I took the class and 1st set of open water dives in Grand Cayman. Do to family pressure we decided we couldn't finish the last OW dives at the next(last) port so we earned our PADI scuba diver cert only. 8 months later he and I finished our OW in Ft Lauderdale. My older son,at 17, gets certified during the summer 2006. The 3 of us get to dive a couple times here and there. So now 3 years later we have about 35 dives under our belts my daughter turned 10 and wants to get certified.
I decided so I would feel more comfortable (having most of my family under the water with me) I wanted to get more training, specifically rescue level training. I have spent 8 years doing swimming and lifesaving training with the Boy Scouts during summer camp, and felt rescue training would be beneficial to anyone diving.
So this past March due to school schedule anomalies, my younger son(now 15) and I were going to Florida for a week by ourselves. I arraigned with an independent PADI instructor for a week of diving and training. So after 6 days and nights of diving and classes he and I earned our AOW, EFR and Rescue certs. That was a lot of work, but also a lot of fun.
I'm now scheduling my daughter for training this summer, possibly a week long summer camp.
So this summer I also hope to dive in NJ finally.
