Would you pay more for an item in your Local Dive Shop to support them?

I want to get some people using this forum, and I know that this topic is good for some strong opinions, so I'm using it as a jumping off point to get people to post...

Do you have an opinion on buying your gear from your LDS (local dive shop) or are you ok with buying stuff from an internet site like LeisurePro?

My personal opinion is that I want to support my LDS for many reasons. First, the personal service. Second, the ability to try stuff (like in the TSC pool). Third, the service provided on the item you buy (immediate from LDS vs. mail from internet). Fourth, customized service at the LDS. I know that some will say that you pay more for the same thing at your LDS, and this is usually true. However, you get what you pay for. I've always said that a business in in business to stay in business. They don't do that by selling for a loss.

What is your opinion, and why? Lets get some people involved in this one.

OK I'll bite. I feel you can support your LDS and still save some money here and there buying some items from websites like LP which I've purchased from several times.

Not all LDS's are created equal either. I understand that businesses are in business to stay in business, but they should not be looking get rich on one customer and should always be looking for that customer to come back and feel at home. I've yet to really have that experience but I'm sure there are LDS's out there like that.......Just my 2ยข

I have to say do your homework before you buy anything. if you go to a shop with a price in mind knowing what it is how much retail and about cost and can talk. you should be able to get just about the same deal from the LDS as you would the internet. with that being said if its a brand new item every store is usually goin to pay the same it comes down to the individual and how well they are willing to work with you. as of right now i am planning on getting a dry suit a Bare Trilam HD Tech Pro and im getting 700 off MSRP. thats from a Local dive shop and had an internet retailer emai me back and offered an extra 25.00 off so it really comes down to the individual about you doing your resarch on the product and then how well you can negotitate with the LDS and like i said there will be circumstances where the LDS might not want to sell it that cheap. But search around you will usually get the deal your looking for.
But with that being said it would come down to price if were talkin 20-30 dollars absolutly go with LDS if we are talking 4-500 i would go with who ever has it
