I want this ship anywhere where it fits ....

Highest point should not come up to less than 60 ft when I recall correctly. So the mud hole may be a place ...

PHILADELPHIA — The retired aircraft carrier USS John F. Kennedy is almost back to Philadelphia.

The ship is headed up from Florida. It was built in Newport News, Va., in the 1960s and retired on March 23, 2007, after 38 years of active service. It was modernized at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard in the mid-1990s, the last major project at the yard.

Officials say the ship is slated to dock in Philadelphia on Saturday afternoon. It was originally scheduled to arrive Friday but was delayed.

The carrier will remain mothballed in Philadelphia until the Navy decides whether to sell, scrap or use the ship for another purpose.

What would it take to get it here? Could you imagine the impact this would have on diving in New Jersey? It would open it up to divers from all over the place.

I am not sure about the impact this would have on the diving in our area. Considering that this think is probably keel to top 200ft high and need to clear the 60ft for shipping it has to go either into the mud hole (if at all), where it would be in the shipping channel or further out e.g. Texas Tower, U869.
That would make it an awful long ride out to the site. It had to be a special (long) day trip and considering the ever rising fuel costs it would be an expensive treat (well, still less than Pensacola :) )

Even if we had a ginormous wreck out there, I don't think we'd get a flood of divers. It would still be a long pukey ride away.
