Hello,
In November I will be going to the Maldives, and I really wanted to become certified before going out there so that I could do some assisted diving.
I live in Flemington.
Two questions:
1) can someone recommend a dive shop for me to receive training?
2) Is it unrealistic of me to want to get certified before heading out to the Maldives?

Regards,
Brad

There are two dive shops near you. Hunterdon Scuba is on Rt. 202/31. If you want local, that's your shop, but I don' know about their training. About 15 minutes away, in Hillsborough, is The Scuba Connection. Of these two, I would recommend the Scuba Connection, but both are good (I think TSC is better).

The Scuba Connection: 908-359-1250
Hunterdon Scuba: (908) 806-0555

It is NOT unrealistic for you to want to get certified before leaving. It will be worth every cent.

Good luck.

You have plenty of time so I would jump all over that certification course if I were you. I've never been to Hunterdon Scuba so I can not speak for them although I am sure they are quite capable. I have been to The Scuba Connection and am quite please with their service.

Jay

Brad,

I think you have your answer. Three out of three recommended The Scuba Connection. Give them a call, and tell them Mike from NJDive says "hi".

Hi Brad,

My name is Jason Fisch, I am an owner of The SCUBA Connection in Hillsborough NJ.

You are going to love the Maldives and yes you can defiantly be certified by November.

You do have a shop that is local to you, Hunterdon SCUBA. The Owner's name is Don Bieger. The run a good shop and I would suggest stopping in there and speaking with them to find out what they have to offer you.

Diving is a very personal thing and you want to make sure that you feel comfortable with the people that are going to be training you.

If you would like, stop by our shop, we are approx 20-25 minutes east of Flemington. We are open 7 days a week Mon-Fri 10am-8pm and Sat-Sun 9am-4pm. We have an indoor pool right on premise. We also have on-line shopping for your convenience, you can check it our on http://www.diveseekers.com

If you would like to chat further you can e-mail me at jasonf@tscscuba.com or call us at the shop (908) 359-1250

I look forward to hearing from you.

Cheers
