I just learned that Captain Zero, Joseph D. Terzuoli, has just died in a scuba accident diving off NJ. He just joined this board last week, and used the screen name "Terzuoli". This is terribly sad news. He had over 3,500 dives logged, and was diving alone on the wreckage of the Texel -- a Dutch steamer that was sunk by a German U-boat in 1918 -- when the accident took place.

My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family.

Very Sad indeed.

I see he was a Great Diver and has been able to do many things. Going to the Doria that has got to be a great feat to meet. I am wondering is this accident a sign of just how dangeruos diving actually is. No one was there so no real answers on what happened and why. Someone with as much experince and knowledge as him i know accidents can happen to anyone but is this the reason why they highly recomend you never dive alone. Or Just that the sport is really that dangerous. From what i read he seemed like one great diver so to think foolishness came into play it would seem hard to believe.

This is the second incident this season and both so similar. It's a real shame such a young man with so much knowledge. You can't take anything for granted.

Fair seas and following winds...
